I’ve been scratching my head for the longest time trying to install the Blackberry Desktop Manager on my new Vista machine. I previously had it running on my older XP machine without any problems. Initially I thought it was a problem with my pc so I rebooted it and still couldn’t get the BB desktop manager to install. I was using the disc that came with my Blackberry and I’ld click on the ‘Install’ link and nothing would happen for the next 3 minutes after which the installation would begin only to end up with an error message mid way. Grrrr….
Something was definitely up. I use my Blackberry pretty much for everything and constantly fiddling around with it. I’m either listening to some internet marketing related MP3 or watching videos. Helps kill waiting time I figure. Anyway…I did a search on the net and couldn’t quite find any info straight away but eventually I came across a site that provided a solution. It didn’t take me long and lo and behold I managed to install the Desktop Manager without any problems. So here’s an excerpt from the site. Hopefully it’ll help all of you who are suffering the same fate
Vista for some reason doesnt register VBScript. What you have to do is first of all find where vbscript.dll is, mine was in C:\Windows\System32, but I think it changes dependant on your version. Next you need to go to start -> accessories and the right click on command prompt and click “run as administrator”, next type “cd C:\Windows\System32″ (replace the dir if its differnt for you) and then type “regsvr32 vbscript.dll”. It should then confirm that vbscript has been registered and everything should work.
