When I first started affiliate marketing with Adwords about a year and a half ago I used the Google Cash method and direct linked all my ads to the merchant page. In November 06′ all the keywords in all my campaigns were slapped with huge min bid prices. My income went from $$$$ to nothing overnight. Needless to say….I panicked big time. I then signed up to Wealthy Affiliate and went through the material meticulously.
Wealthy Affiliate is a PPC/affiliate marketing coaching club run by two internet marketers Kyle & Carlson. K&C as we like to call them preach the landing page model where instead of direct linking to the merchant you build a landing page with your affiliate links embedded in the content. I quickly learnt via one-on-one consultations with K&C that building a landing page at the time was more profitable then direct linking. It initially took me awhile to build my first landing page as I wasn’t sure of a lot of things like the type of content I should include or the number of affiliate links etc.
In a week or so my landing page was up, my bid prices had reduced drastically and I was making profit like never before. Since then I haven’t looked back and now I only use landing pages. Gone are the days of direct linking. I’ll explain a little more in my next post about how landing pages saved me from the pit of despair…
