Yup you read it right. The Google slap is coming and expected to hit sometime today 21st February 2007. Last week my keywords were hit with huge $10 min bids and thanks to the new quality score column on Google I was able to determine which keywords were of a low QS. Thankfully that was a technical error on Google’s part and in the next day or two the bid prices went down again. Over the next few I don’t expect to be hit badly. I’ve learnt from the last Google slap in Nov 06 to build relevant landing page with quality content, tighten my ad groups (not more than 50 keywords per group) and include the keywords in the ad title and description. Most of my keywords have a Great QS with maybe say 10% with an Ok QS and none to date with a Poor QS. That being the case I don’t expect to be hit much by the Google slap.
The only problem I’ve been facing today is the disabling of my ads due to copyright infringement. I sort of anticipated this especially with the download movies/music industry a month ago so I began to aggressively promote other types of products as well as expanding my campaigns to Yahoo.
Over the next two days I’m just gonna give Adwords a rest and wait to determine the effect of the slap on my campaigns. Maybe I’ll work on my blog in the meantime
I will be back to report on the slap effect shortly..till then…take a deep breath and don’t worry too much. Theres always a way to crawl back up again…
